Cheshire Manor is Scottish Fold & Scottish Straight cattery. We participate in TICA's Ethical Cattery program and strictly follow their rules while working on developing our own unique bloodlines. Cheshire Manor kittens are beautiful, healthy and very affectionate. We love them from the moment they're born!
how it started
Get to know us what inspires us every day! We love cats! After we couldn't find a Scottish or British Shorthair healthy kitten for our daughter in shelters and got scammed online while trying to buy one, we looked for reputable breeders near us. Unfortunately, they all had waiting lists months in advance! After finding our first two cats, we decided to change that. The world needs more beautiful and affectionate felines that enrich people's lives every day!
We're a small family home-based cattery in Northern Virginia, Washington DC suburbs. The owner of the cattery holds an MS degree in Software Engineering and a foreign law degree, but it's a family affair. We couldn't do without the help of our two amazing twins! We don't feel that we're in business of breeding cats, no. We're in business of bringing joy to people's lives. It's very gratifying to see how people's faces start to glow when they interact with our kittens!
Our cats and kittens are never caged. They live and sleep with us and are treated as family members, and as a result, our kittens are well socialized and are not skittish. We heard comments like, "we had no idea that cats can behave like that and be that friendly!"
We have Scottish Fold Shorthair & Scottish Fold Highland, Scottish Straight Shorthair and Scottish Straight Highland kittens with Silver, Golden, and color-pointed coats.
Recently, we expanded our breeding program to include British Shorthair kittens Our kittens' health and well-being is our top priority, always! We never ever breed a Scottish Fold with a Scottish Fold! To ensure that our litters are healthy, all our breeding girls have Straight ears, and the kittens get all the recommended vaccinations, including rabies, have been dewormed several times, microchipped and sterilized by the time they leave us. Our pets are never caged and are raised in a healthy, loving environment. They're strictly indoor cats.
Our kittens have been adopted to states all over the continental US. We have many return customers who come back for a companion kitten for their first one from us! Cheshire Manor kittens have found their home with many different families, including veterinarians.

Our parent cats can trace their ancestry for generations and either hold champion titles or their ancestors do.
And with pedigreed cat you know what you're getting in terms of a temperament. Scottish Fold and Straight cats have a quiet, friendly, yet playful disposition. They are not high energy cats and won't demand your constant attention. Scottish cats can be left alone at home during the day, although it's best that you have more than one cat of similar age at home in this case.
They also tend to be very adaptable and get along well with other cats and dogs.

We strictly follow TICA, The International Cat Association, ethical standards. Our kittens come with TICA pedigree or WCF pedigree, which we will convert to a TICA pedigree for free upon your request. TICA has the largest pedigree registry in the world.
They're kept strictly indoors, and we require adopters to continue that in our contract. We also either alter the kittens before they leave us or you're required to do so, depending on their age. We don't use cages in either of our locations, so the kittens are socialized with our families from the very start so that they're not skittish around humans and form a loving relationship with you.
We screen all potential forever homes before accepting your deposit to ensure well-being of our kittens.

All our kittens are the result of a Scottish Fold + Scottish Straight or Scottish Straight + Scottish Straight or Scottish Fold or Straight + British Shorthair pairings. Out of an abundance of caution, all our breeding females are either Scottish Straight or British cats who have regular, not folded, ears.
British Shorthair pairing is an allowable outcross by TICA's breed standards for Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight kittens. This is how we guard against an accidental Fold-to-Fold breeding that would result in kittens having two mutated alleles that could put their health at risk.
Our breeding cats located in the USA are genetically tested against several dozens of DNA defects Optimal Selection Wisdom Panel Lab Services that checks for 50+ genetic mutations. The test set includes PKD, or Polycystic Kidney Disease, which is unfortunately prevalent in Scottish cats.
Kittens' parents DNA reports are available upon request and will be posted on the website in the future when we create "Our Cats" webpage.
It's worth stating explicitly that we do not breed cats with any genetic defects that we're aware of. The only exception is the presence of one mutated allele* in the FD gene that all Scottish Fold cats have. We don't breed cats that have two mutated alleles in the FD gene.
* An allele is a component of a gene and is commonly referred to as "one copy of a gene" or "two copies of a gene."
Health of our kittens is our highest priority, and we provide a health guarantee and congenital defects warranty as outlined in our contract.
Kittens born in the US go home with a free no-obligation 30-days health insurance coverage from Trupanion without waiting periods for illness and accidents. The insurance offer has to be activated by the new owners using a code that we'll provide on the day of the adoption or the day before.
