Adoption Fee Structure

Tier Placement Criteria

Tier Placement Criteria

An adoption fee is individually determined based on the characteristics of each kitten. In general, though, our adoption fees are tier structured as shown below.

Tier 1:

  • Scottish Straight: $590 - $1,490.
  • Scottish Fold: $1,590 - $2,190
  • British Shorthair: $1,190 - $2,190

Tier 2:

  • Scottish Straight: $1,491 - $2,490
  • Scottish Fold: $2,191 - $2,590
  • British Shorthair: $2,191 - $2,650

Tier 3:

  • Scottish Straight: $2,491 - $2,990
  • Scottish Fold: $2,591 - $3,490
  • British Shorthair: $2,650 - $3,190

The vast majority of our kittens are in Tier1 or the lower end of Tier 2!

* Virginia residents should add 6% to the adoption fee. We're required by law to collect and transmit the state's sales tax to the state.

Tier Placement Criteria

Tier Placement Criteria

Tier Placement Criteria

Characteristics that affect what tier a particular kitten is placed are the following:

  • Temperament plays a big role. The friendlier, the kitten, the more desirable they are, which can be reflected in the adaption fee structure.
  • Apparent intelligence of the kitten has lesser effect on their adoption fee. We think that cats are smarter than people anyway!
  • Coat color, with golden and color-pointed kittens usually being slightly more expensive
  • Darkness/lightness of the coat with lighter color raising the adoption fee. For instance, any kitten with “12” in their color code are likely to be placed a in a higher tier than a kitten with “24” or “22” or “25.” So-called chinchillas tend to be more expensive, and “tigers” tend to be more affordable.
  • Coat color distribution. Kittens with even coat color distribution placed in a higher tier.
  • Presence and type of a pattern on the coat. Absence of any pattern being more desirable, and, therefore, more expensive.
  • Coat length, shorthaired or longhaired with the latter being more expensive. Thickness also plays a role.
  • Shape and size of the head. The rounder the head, the higher the tier.
  • Outline of the kitten's profile also play a role.
  • Folds are more expensive than Straights, as evident from the tiers. Kittens with smaller and more tightly folded ears are preferred and valued more.
  • The bigger the eyes, the better, but the color of the eyes playing a higher role. Deep sapphire blue eyes in a kitten will place them in a higher tier.
  • Long tail is a good thing. Kittens with shorter tails are likely to be more affordable.
  • We don’t discriminate, but our girls can be more expensive because their sterilization surgery is more expensive than the boys and they need more recovery time.
  • Origin: Russian-born kittens are more affordable.

The criteria are listed in no particular order, and the list isn’t all-exhaustive.
